It was an up and down week for the Keokuk Chiefs boys basketball team who were delighted to get their first victory of the season. Friday night the boys took a tough loss at the hands of Fort Madison by a score of 64 to 43. Senior Damon Wolter’s 17 points weren’t enough to keep the Chiefs in the game as Fort Madison moved to 8 and 3 on the year. Monday the Chiefs headed to Augusta Illinois and came away with their first victory defeating Southeastern high school by a score of 58 to 53. The Chiefs had 4 players score in double digits as Isaac Hunstad led with 19 points, Brendan Plate had 14, Damon Wolter scored 10, and Freshman Jace Wade contributed 11 off the bench. Tuesday night it looked for a time like the Chiefs might make it 2 in a row as they headed into the 4th quarter up by 4 points in Ottumwa. However the Chiefs were outscored 18 to 7 and fell by score of 50 to 43. The Chiefs had balanced scoring but no one reached double digits in points. The boys will be back in action Friday as they head to Mount Pleasant, that game can be heard live on Z93 with pregame beginning at 7:30PM.
