The Central Lee Hawks suffered a sweep at the hands of Van Buren on Tuesday night with the girls team falling 45-31 for their first conference loss of the season and the boys losing 75-52 on the road.

The Hawks had three players averaging double figures entering the game in Mya Merschman, Emily Fuller and Malarie Ross, but none of them were able to produce their normal scoring numbers on Tuesday.

Merschman was the top scorer of the three with nine points, about half of what she usually averages, while Ross and Fuller combined for just eight points.

Makenna Hall was the overall leading scorer with 12 points for Central Lee.

The girls are now 13-3 on the season and 11-1 in conference play.

The boys’ loss drops them to 1-12 (1-10) for the year after they could not get it done against the Warriors.

Derick Denning was the leading scorer with 10 points and Bronson Sargent followed with nine.

Central Lee forced just five turnovers while coughing the ball up 14 times themselves.

Van Buren led just 15-10 after the first quarter, but increased their lead every quarter the rest of the game.

Central Lee will play next on Friday with a doubleheader at home against WACO.
