Train Derailment Will Not Impact City

A train derailing in Keokuk near Victory Park caused a commotion early Monday morning.
Thirteen cars loaded with coal were involved in the derailment that occurred around 2 AM.
The cause for the event is not yet known, but crews are continuing to clean up the scene.
No one was injured in the incident and the hope is the area will be cleared by Monday evening.
While the derailment caused a large mess near the park, City Administrator Cole O’Donnell said the construction will not impact the city at all.
This includes anything with Victory Park.
“You know, really what it is, as far as I know, the only thing really affecting over at Victory Park is being able to get there,” O’Donnell said.
Roads along the tracks are blocked off while crews are working.
No Keokuk Junction Railway equipment was affected in the crash, but it will impact the amount of movement that goes through the railway which could put them behind.
BSNF Railway could not be reached for comment.
