The Keokuk track and field teams began their seasons on Friday with a meet in Jacksonville, Illinois as part of indoor competition at Illinois College.
In field results, sophomore Miracle Ailes came in first place in the girls high jump with a mark of 5’5”. She finished four inches higher than the next closest competitor.
Classmate Sydney McCarron came in ninth in the girls shot put at 32’10” while freshman Abigail Belba finished 33rd at 24’9”. On the boys side, junior Keagon Burke threw for 32’6” for 41st place.
In the girls long jump, sophomore Mahayla Arrowood finished with a mark of 12’4.75” to place 33rd.
Ailes was also the Chiefs’ top finisher in the 200M and 400M, getting sixth place in both events, and classmate Lindsey Campbell finished in 16th in the 200M and also finishing fifth in the 55M.
Sophomore Jacob McWilliams ran the 200M in 26 seconds to finish in 26th.
Seniors Abby Arrowood and Jennifer Jones finished 39th and 40th respectively in the girls 800M while freshmen Hunter Haage and Dalton Jones finished 32nd and 45th for the boys.
Destiny Bennett and Emily Buckner began their senior seasons by competing in the 1600M and placed 25th and 33rd, respectively.
The girls 4x200M relay finished in fifth place with a time of 1:57:29 while the boys finished 26th at 1:51:04.
In the 4x400M relay, Keokuk finished 20th on the girls’ side and 19th for the boys.
Keokuk finished 22nd in the boys 4x800M relay at 10:45.51.
The Chiefs finished in 12th place as a team for the girls and the boys did not place, but they were also not competing at full strength as a handful of their athletes are still returning from winter sports.
