This Saturday, Keokuk will play host to The Tour of Honor For Veterans. Similar to the Honor Flights that send veterans to Washington D.C., this tour will provide veterans and their families with factual information about The National Cemetery here in Keokuk.
This is being done to not only honor veterans, but to share the history of the National Cemetery and Keokuk in general. The hope is to make the event informative but fun as well.
Keokuk’s Local American Legion Post #41 will be hosting the event and serve as a central meeting point.
Beginning at 1:30 PM the tour will start with a meet and greet before everyone boards transportation that is being provided.
After a tour of the cemetery, the groups will return to the Post where more specific information about things such as eligibility, space available, and how to make a claim in the cemetery will be provided.
Finally, there will be a catered meal where veterans will be able to eat for free and spouses and other family members will be able to eat for a small fee. The dinner will be a choice of Chicken Cordon Bleu or prime rib.
