Superstar chef David Chang gives us a taste of his “Ugly Delicious” for Netflix

Courtesy Netflix(NEW YORK) — Get ready to taste Ugly Delicious, a new food and travel show premiering on Netflix Friday. It’s hosted by superstar chef David Chang, of the Momofuku restaurant empire.

So, the obvious question is, what’s with that title? “Some of the food that you may not find to be the most beautiful are actually the most delicious,” the James Beard-winning chef tells ABC Radio. “And that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.”

The show spans countries and cuisines, centering on a single type of food per episode, but it starts with something decidedly not too fancy: pizza.

“It’s something that everyone can relate to on a global basis,” Chang explains, “especially when you find out that Norway consumes more pizza per capita than anywhere in the world.”

He adds that pizza is “really something that for the most part, all over the world, people have tried before [and] everybody knows.”

Guests on the series include famous chefs and other notables like comedienne Ali Wong, and uses food as a starting point to discuss subjects like cultural appropriation and immigration.

“There’s other stories to be told that are of multitude of viewpoints, so it’s not just my journey, it’s a lot of people’s journeys,” Chang says.

Season 1 of Ugly Delicious is now available on Netflix.
