Tri-States Playoff Football Action This Weekend

Another exciting weekend of playoff football is set for this weekend.

Only one team still remains in the state class 3A football playoffs from District 5 and that is the undefeated and 2nd ranked Solon Spartans. The Spartans will host their 4th consecutive home game Friday night when 8 and West Delaware/Manchester visits Spartan Stadium in the Class 3A Quarterfinals. District 5 placed 3 teams in the Class 3A playoffs but Oskaloosa fell 43-10 to Xavier Cedar Rapids while the Washington Demons fell 45-28 on the road to Davenport Assumption last week. Should the Spartans win they would play the winner of top-ranked Xavier Cedar Rapids and Davenport-Assumption in the Class 3A Semifinals.

Playoff football action in the Tri-States area kicks off Friday night when the 7 and 4 Clark County Indians take their 6 game winning streak on the road against the team that gave them their most recent loss. The Palmyra Panthers defeated Clark County 20 to 6 on September 15th and they themselves have won 9 of their last 10 games to enter the game with a  9 and 2 overall record. It’s a classic case of something has to give as the Indians are 4 and 1 on the road this season while Palmyra is a perfect 5 and 0 at home in 2017. One of the big keys for the Indians will be slowing down Panther fullback Peyton Plunkett who has rushed for 1 thousand 150 yards this season while also reaching the end zone 11 timers. The Indians visit the Panthers at PM Friday.

Saturday’s Illinois Class 2A 2nd round playoff matchup in Hamilton, Illinois will look eerily similar to the game played at the field 2 weeks ago. On October 21st the Bismarck-Henning Rossville Alvin Blue Devils travelled across the state of Illinois with a 6 and 2 record looking to knock off the undefeated West Hancock Titans. The Blue Devils would fight hard and even take a 4 point lead with just over 5 minutes left in the game but 2 quick West Hancock touchdowns would seal the 38-38 victory as well as a 2nd consecutive undefeated regular season for the Titans. Well this Saturday the only difference will be the records and the fact that the loser will watch the clock run out on their season. The Blue Devils come to Hamilton after squeaking out a 37-34 victory over Carni in the 1st round of the playoffs. West Hancock dominated Auburn last Saturday 35-7 to set up Saturday’s 2nd round matchup, set to begin at 2:30PM in Hamilton.
