5 weeks into the 2017 Iowa High School football season the Keokuk Chiefs are one of just 4 teams without a win in class 3A. The Chiefs fought back after a poor start at West Burlington Notre Dame Friday night but fell short 28-14 against the Falcons. 5 minutes into the game West Burlington Notre Dame found themselves up 14 to 0 after a pair of touchdown runs. The Chiefs would narrow the lead to one score after a Cory Skinner 4 yard touchdown run made it 14 to 6 in the second quarter but the Falcons would get one more score in the second to head to halftime up 21-6. After tacking on another score to make the game 28-6 the Falcons got sloppy and the Chiefs made work of it. A fumble by running back Darius Whaley ended up in the arms of freshmen linebacker Callum Tackes who raced 45 yards with the ball to narrow the lead to 28-14 but that is where the scoring would end as the Chiefs reached the WBND 5 yard line before turning it over on downs in the 4th. The falcons moved to 2 and 3 while the Chiefs fell to 0 and 5 ahead of Friday night’s homecoming game against the 4 and 1 Washington Demons.
