If you’ve driven by Rand Park in Keokuk recently you may have noticed a large amount of construction work being done. The permeable paver project continues to progress with excavation of the previous surface being removed and graded. One separate project that was planned to take place at the same time as the paver project is the replacement of the playground at the park. City Public Works Director Mark Bousselot explained that there had been some concerns regarding the safety of the previous structure caused by wear and tear. After looking for parts to bring the playground up to code, the city realized that the original manufacturer of the playground had long quit making parts. So the city budgeted funds to replace the structure with grant funds offsetting the 100 thousand dollar price tag. The new playground should be available to the public in May while the permeable paver project has a mid-June estimated completion date.
