The State of Illinois owes Hamilton School District more than 830 thousand dollars in funding. This according to Superintendent Joe Yurko who reported to the school board on March 15th. The funds, which are due to the school before the end of the fiscal year in June, are being held up by Illinois’ pending budget impasse. Yurko stated that he believes the school will receive some of the money but doesn’t know exactly when or how much while adding that many districts throughout the state are dealing with the same issue. The stalled funds are being monitored by the school board as it has become a burden on the district’s budget situation. At this time, districts in Hancock County have not discussed eliminating or shrinking programs or extra-curricular activities.
